W-30 Valve adjustment.

they are set at .017 hot. probably want the procedure also... follow firing order, 1342, start with #1 cyl. on compression at TDC and set both valves for #1 cyl. turn engine over till #3 cyl is at TDC on compression and set that cyl. turn engine over again till #4cyl. is at TDC on compression and set. do the same for the last #2 cyl.

you can do it with the engine idling, it will let you know if you have one sticking , and if you have worn parts, not uncommon in 75 plus year old engines, you get a better result than doing them static. Those engines were made for working, and don't usually idle really smooth unless you lean the carb way out, and if you do that they will fall on their face if you try to throttle up fast or pull a load. Just start it up and let it warm up and run your feeler gauge through each valve one at a time and get a consistent feel on the drag of the gauge. Put the cover back on and run it.

ok...I can do that ; theres also a way to just turn to two cylinders; you dont have to do each one. Thanks

its the way i said ... you adjust one cyl. at a time. the same procedure mechanic's and are taught in class. there is one other way to adust valves but its not your way. you get #1 cyl. on tdc on compression, then adjust valves 123 5. then get #4 cyl. on tdc on compression and adjust the remaining valves 4 678. this is the 2 ways to adjust valves that mechanic's use.

yes, u use a feeler guage . being close dont count. yes you can do .019 cold. even with a feelere guage 2 people doing the same job can have a different feel. know how to use a FEELER guage. u want to check your feel???... then once you set to .017 ,try .018 should be no go. .016 will be loose. the other name for a feeler guage is GO NO GO GUAGE.

Rust red....not sure your meaning...I have been a mechanic for over 50 yrs....just didnt have the sequence on this engine> Its not my way??? I better leave this alone- I was just asking for help- guess if there are people on here that are sarcastic I better stay off.
