Narrow row corn head on 35"s?

We have a nice 843 narrow row head that came with our 815. Problem is we're set up for planting 35" rows on our JD planter. Any chance a 4 row narrow head will still combine 4 row wide corn decent? Thanks,

Pete

Your going to have some field loss, if you'r right on the row, But you would better off with a wide row head, you can set that down to 36 inch, i would think !!

You would be pushing the outer row out 7-8" and is stalks are least brittle they will be breaking off bending them that much. The higher the snapping rolls are set the better it would work but then you would be going over a lot of corn not picking it up.

It's almost a shame to get the crop that close to a cash position, and the ear's drop off on the ground in front of you, can you get a head that's set up for 36 in row's, most of all corn is now 30 or 22, so there should be some good 36 in row heads out there available, i always used John Deere 444 head which was set a 36 in row's, but they could be set for 38 and 40, i am assuming the IHC heads are the same way, the best of luck with the corn harvest, you got plenty of time to find a 36 head, for this year, just don't want you to wait till harvest starts to deciede that the 30 inch head wont work. In my opinon it wont be pretty!

I agree with the rest you need a 36 inch head. Dad bought some corn one time from a neighbor. That was planted in 36 inch rows. We had a 30 inch head and had to pick 2 rows at a time with a 3 row head. They were bent together a good bit then.
I suppose you could set your head for the wider rows with fewer rows to save buying a head. Just needs to be wide enough to get the combine through the rows. You would also need to add some tin work to the mix. I would just get a wide row head. you can use the row units on the narrow head for parts if they are the same units. Like the 843 and an 844 both would have the same units just different width.
