I want to thank everyone who chimed in on my SMTA electrical problems I posted yesterday. Several of your comments were particularly insightful. I am determined to start fresh this morning looking for shorts and bad connections. It is wired correctly. When and if I find something I will update. I can't start the tractor right now because the governor is off. Could the light switch be bad? I have printed off all comments and will head for the barn shortly. Thanks, Ellis

Anything is possible but as been stated many times the lights and ignition should be 2 separate circuits.

Maybe open the box and take some pics so we can see what you see.

Your issue lies in 4' of wire and a switch.
 
A bad switch in the kitchen should have no affect on a switch in the living room, even if they get their electricity from the same circuit in the basement. Switches control down stream effects, unless cross wired, or touching. Sometimes a bad connection can be reconnected by running current through it. Jim
 
When I have problems like your having I hot wire the thing. Doing that tells me if the problem is in the wiring before or after the battery. Have a neighbor who just got a Ford 851 and the only way it will start and run is hot wired. No hot wire and the thing will not even turn over but hot wired runs just fine and turns over just fine so he has a bad wiring problem
