International 444 hydraulics won't go down

Hi everyone, we just bought a property and it included an International 444. The only real issue seems to be that the hydraulics won't go down. With the draft control set as deep as it will go, the position lever all the way down and the revs right down the arms don't move. But if I increase the revs, change the draft or raise the position control then the arms go all the way up and try to keep going. Doesn't matter which of the settings i change, the arms go up. The only way to get them to go down is hang on them myself or turn the tractor off.
Any ideas of whats wrong here? Seems like a valve is jammed but I'm new to tractors so am not sure what exactly I'm looking for.
Any help would be great!
Cheers,
Jared

First of all, unless you are moldboard plowing, put the position/draft control in the "position" mode and leave it there, hitch should raise and lower with the "position" lever IF there's weight on the hitch, they are NOT "power down".

Do you understand how the "lock"/isolator knob and the "speed" knob work?

If all that is how it's supposed to be, you have internal problems ranging from and adjustment to broken or stuck parts.

Those 3-points are complicated, to the point of seeming UNREASONABLY complicated, and if you are going to fix it/repair it/tear it apart you REALLY need the factory "Blue Ribbon Hitch Manual", GSS-1312, IIRC, or maybe there's a later version. GOOGLE "GSS-1312".

For know, if you care to email me, I would scan the pages listing trouble causes and send them to you.

Thanks Bob, From what I understand having the draft control lever all the way forward is the correct position. I've got a handle on the lock and speed knobs and I don't think that's the issue. I've had a long jib arm attached for weight. I think I may just give the local dealer a call and see what can be figured out.

I'd hoped that perhaps there was a well know problem with them that had a straightforward fix. Long shot I know!

Thanks for your reply mate.
