1949 M Lambert

Well tractor has spent many many years outside. Left brake sucked. Attempt to pull cover. Piles of brake crap and pieces of spring start falling out. Neat. Soak and pry and hammer. Got it. Everything ruined. Actuator broke in half. Hardly tell spline shaft has splines its so rusty. It?s all junk. Needs converted back as parts for lambert pricey and hard to find. Anyone have what I need?! I?m near Des Moines Iowa. Recroomend band? Will band brakes for? Also might be given a farmall H. Don?t know year yet. Brakes compatible? Sure year depends. Thanks lots.

I'm pretty sure none of the H brake parts will fit. I have everything here that you should need to convert yours back on a 42 M that I need to get out of the way, even new brake bands, but I'm in KY.

H parts are much smaller. I have an old M that I'm parting out. The brakes are still all there. I'm just north of you in Austin MN.

Charlie. What year is your M? I would need everything to even
the center sline shaft and the plate bolted to diff housing. Then
obviously the actuators and covers. How much for both sides?
Thanks

Ih560. Any idea if the 42 will fit the 49? Heard the early m the
center hub used a key way and later ones used splines for
center hub for were goes into diff housing. I?m not that much
up on them. Maybe you are? Thanks

I own a 1940 M. Redid the brakes a few years ago. The left side is all original with the keyed hub. Right side has been changed over to the newer splined hub. Pretty sure your '49 M will have the splined hubs.

H and M brakes are NOT interchangeable. Getting rid of those Lamberts and changing back original band brakes will make you and your tractor a LOT happier. I did it to a 1950 H a few years ago.

If I wanted to go to band brakes, wouldn?t all the linkage for pedals and everything be different? What if just went back to the IH disc brakes? Thanks again.

Going with the IH disc brakes would require changing just as much stuff as going back to the original band brakes.

Whatever linkage parts might be different should come with the hub, band, and brake cover.

I have a 1951 M rear end for sale in classifieds.I am in Dodgeville,WI call me and come on up we can take all needed parts for yours.1-608-341-6066.Scott

The 49 had band brakes. The entire system is different for the IH disk system, and had different bolt holes. Because the Osco brakes were retrofitted, the band brakes will work as original. The band brakes are far superior to either type of disk brakes. they are reliable and powerful. the Farmall tractors were degraded by the use of disk brakes until the 706 and beyond. Jim

Charlie. Guess what parts I will need depends if you have the
band brake setup?! If it?s band brakes let me know on price of
all of it to get me converted back. Also needs to be spline and
not key-way on pinion shaft. Thanks

I have a 41 M, Casting code "K" What I have is the complete whole transmission housing. You will have all the parts necessary for converting back to band breaks. Call me 507/438/8172 Charlie

Good deal. With as many Ms as were manufactured, there are plenty of them around being parted out, so you should have easily been able to find something local, as you did. Plus brake parts are a hard sell, so the parts tractors generally still have them intact.

BTW, you would have to change out the entire rear end to put IH disk brakes on the tractor.
