Well that wasn't what I meant to do.

560 got stuck in gear today when I was mowing hay. No big deal. Remove gear shift lever and see which gear is out of line. No problem. Easy fix. Look in the toolbox for something to pop things back in place. Limited items available, but there's a 13/16" wrench. That should work. Things aren't going back in place like they should. Maybe I'll sit on the seat and use my foot to get more pressure. Foot slips off wrench. Wrench falls into the rear end of the tractor. Didn't think that one out real well.

Greetings,

I have always found that taking off the belt pulley delete plate faster and allows better access to shifting rails and leverage points than working through the shifter.

i learned that one from my father with the 43 M my grandfather bought new

If you could affix a rare earth magnet to the end of a shaft you might be able to fish it out. 2 part epoxy, cured overnight, should be enough to hold it to a steel shaft for guidance and pulling it away from stationary parts that it might stick to.

Dropped a punch down an injector hole into cylinder on a Case 2870 and wrench into back of Case 1030 adj PTO brake. Fished too long w/magnets till I "put on my big girl panty's" and pulled head on 2870 and PTO hsg on 1070. Now use a drinking straw to find TDC and tie PTO brake adj wrenches to a long string/wire. School of hard knocks?

jack up one rear wheel, takes pressure off. then rail will slide easier

Was using a flail cutter with dads 43 M. Want to shift it out of 4th gear into neutral fast to keep the PTO going. Gear shifter went into neutral and gear went into 5th. I was probably 16 years old at the time. Took the gear shifter out and found a rod about 12 inches long in the tool box. Stuck it down in there to line up the slots and dropped it down in the transmission. Heard it hit the bottom of the case and fall over. Put the shifter back in and put it in gear and took off real slow. Everything seemed to be good. Now the only thing to worry about was next winter when the oil was cold would it be pulled into a gear. Nothing happened and I never told dad.
