Yet another "what's it worth?" 10 speed H

So, I've found an H (don't remember the year) older, quality restoration, wide front, good new rubber. Owned by an old collector that I trust. Second time he's owned it in his 60 years of collecting. Here's the kicker: It has a hi and low range, making it a 10 speed. Asking price is $4,500.

Probably pretty rare if a 10 speed. More likely it's a 9 speed. 5th speed doesn't change from one range to the other. Sounds high to me.

Are you sure about 10 speed there are the regular speeds and then OD in 1,2,3, and 4th and reverse 5th is standard

M&W and Heisler are the two main producers of multi gear accessories for Farmalls. They both used a set of additional gears to
increase the cluster gear ratio. All the "new" speeds are between 4th and 5th when in normal range. This does little for tillage,
but does make raking and other light tasks doable throttled down. It also provides transport speeds in the 8 to 13 or so MPH. The
PTO cannot be used in OD and the Hydraulic pump should be disconnected due to over speeding them both. Interesting but not like a
TA or over under setup found on a case. If it is really nice and was really gone through, maybe 3500. There are too many Hs
around to bring more. That money will buy a real nice 300 or 350 with real 10 speed, and live hydro live PTO. Jim

He might easily have $4,500 in it, but they don't sell for that. One third to one half that would be realistic.

The only way it's worth $4500 to someone is if there is documentation proving that $4500 worth of work and parts have been put into the tractor, AND the prospective buyer's intent is to end up with a tractor in that condition.

In other words, if they don't buy this "restored" one, they would restore another one to a similar condition. They're going to put $4500+ into an H regardless, and they don't care if they do the work themselves or someone else does it.

Most of the fun of buying an old tractor and fixing it up is the journey, and at the end being able to point at it and say, "I did that." For most, there's no fun in buying someone else's already-completed project.

Most likely a '9 speed'. It adds 4 gears between 4th and 5th.That's all,no 'Hi/Lo' about it.Unless the guy fooled around and made an Hta from a 300 and H.Then you have 10 gears, but not Hi'Lo.If it has a hand clutch lever on the left side(same location as a TA lever),that gives you a 'live'pto of sorts.Nothing more, transmission speeds are not affected. In any case,4500 is about double of what it is worth.
