I have a 2504 with electric problem.when tractor starts it dies right away.i put a jumper wire from the plus side of coil to the plus side of battery.when doing this it runs all day.As soon you take off battery it dies.where does the plus wwire from coil pick up 12 vvolts.does it go to voltage regulator?I traced one wire back to solienod but it ddidnt do anything when i jumper the wire from coil to it.any help stumped

The wire from the solenoid to the coil is only used when starting to bypass the resistor. There should be twelve volts to the resistor and 6 to the coil from the resistor when the key is on.

Should be two wires to the coil. One directly from the key switch, and the other from the solenoid.

The one from the key switch would be a resistor wire, OR it could have a ceramic resistor in line. Either way that is to reduce the voltage to 6V to feed the 6V coil while the tractor runs normally. The resistor is required, or the coil will overheat and burn out if fed 12V for several hours.

The one from the solenoid feeds a full 12V to the coil to ensure a good hot spark during starting.

When cranking the voltage of the battery drops to around 10V. If you used a 12V coil, the spark would be weak during cranking, causing the tractor to be difficult/impossible to start. This is why a 6V coil is used. A 6V coil being fed 10V produces a HOT spark, making the tractor start easier.

It sounds like the wire from the key switch has either burned out or broken.
