Hello,
I am in Belgium.
On the market for a tractor and found a nice IH 454.
All is good but I hvae a doubt on oil pressure.
When the engine reah about 2000 rpm, this warning light goes on.
I do not know what is the problem.
Could you help?>
I m not sure I would buy it due to that potential problem

Thanks for your help

Eric

Hi Eric, greetings from Canada.

Re transmission oil pressure light:
Could be a faulty sensor, a mushroom looking device under the seat with a single wire on it.
Check hydraulic fluid level with tractor running. Overfill transmission by 10 litres of Hytran.

From archives:
Transmission Light flashing on:

Could be the transfer pump is worn. The return of the PTO circuit, goes to the oil cooler then feeds the brake and lubricates
the upper shaft in the front gear-box (1-2-3-4). The transfer pump gives a back pressure to this circuit and lubricates the
pinion and bevel gears in the rear housing by a pipe below the tee where the sensor is located. The overflow feeds the main
pump. If the transfer pump does not have enough pressure or flow, the brake system doesn't work properly. If you have not many
hills, you can remove the plug between the transmission chambers. It's a rubber plug that you can access by the cover, on the
right side, in front of the rear axle. It's not a good idea because the oil level is different in the 3 gear boxes. That is why
you have to run the engine when you check the transmission oil level. On a loader operation when the transfer pump is worn, the
main pump may suck air because the rear housing has gone empty. You may remove the plug in this case, but it's not like changing
the transfer pump. You may add 10 liters of oil when you remove the plug.

watch it. i had the bearing go bad between the 2 tran. got one size bigger and ground down to fit beating.
worked good for several years, then went out too. this time had to go to sav yard. it must have oil froat
litte pump. it is a maj job to replace that.

The usual problem with these tractors is that the parking brake is a band inside the transmission, and when someone drives the tractor with the parking brake set the lining comes off the band and ends up in the hydraulic fluid. It then gets sucked into the screen for the transfer pump
and prevents it from doing its job (resulting in the warning light).

The fix is to remove the MCV (the big valve body behind the external hydraulic filter) and reach through the hole with a small brush to clean the screen on the transfer pump. It's not a pleasant job, but can be done in a few hours. Replacing the parking brake is a lot more time
consuming.
