Sound of a Farmall H

They all sound good. My favorite sound is that split second when you back off the throttle a bit and the governor kicks in
maintaining the rpm i.e. turning on the end rows.
 
They each have their own music....My SuperM.the turbo 706(310).That one just sings.The authoritative song of the straight pipe 1256.........
 
My 350 sounds pretty good, the H we had growing up always sounded like the exhaust was bubbling up through water - especially at idle.
 
My dad and our neighbor worked each others fields together at times. I remember being 6yrs old and hearing two Farmalls, an H and an M plowing one spring with the engine
sounds being melded together. at times one would pull down a bit and there would be a pulsing exhaust note rising and falling as the engines were in sync, and then went
out of sync. Fond it is. Jim
 
Son was raking hay last week with the H in a field about 1/4 mile away. I told him that it had a miss, he said no way it ran great. It had fouled plug (20 yr.old plugs) He couldn't understand how I could tell from that far away. Now she purrs again.

Sad isn't it. Some folks have no idea of what a good running engine sounds like, or feels like. If it starts up and gets them out the driveway, they drive it.
 
I don't have an H but have a 450. This tractor only see shows and pulls anymore. I have a 3 1/2"stainless stack for it and a muffler that is
baffled along with a stainless steel muffler and sounds the best with the old baffled muffler. I have found that it performs better with
baffled muffler
