Farmall M engine numbers

Looking at my M engine the serial number is BKM 258952 XL.Can someone tell me what year it was made. Scott

I say it's a early 51, but they built 42,000 that year, i have 258366

My chart shows '51's started at 248517 and ended at 290922.

Yours is probably fairly early '51.

Engine serial number 258952X1 went in a M tractor built in July of 51. Tractor serial number was probably 269952 or a slight possibility it was 270952. Other posters are not taking in to account engine serial numbers kept getting further behind M chassis numbers as diesel engines were installed in chassis.
