Rim Size Mystery

Working on a 1955 International 100 industrial model by Farmall. Discovered I have a large crack in the right rear rim?explains all the rust I found as you can see clear through it. I?m now in search for a salvage rim. A neighbor dropped by and noticed that the left rim is wider than the right rim?9? vs 8?. Indeed, when I look at the parts catalog I see 2 part #s?51281DB width is W8, and 56205DB W9. The W8 (right side) has the 150 pound weight whereas the left does not have a weight. Both have the same size tires?11.2/10 X 24.

What?s that all about?

How are you measuring the rims outside to outside if it measures 9 out side its an 8in rim and what size tires are you using. The outside measuring 9in would be for a 9.5 tire the 8in outside would be for an 8.3x 24 tire. New replacement rims have different loops all depends on if you want original look

If the 9" rim is good, replace the bad one with a 9" rim to match.

Rim width has nothing to do with the weights. They should be based on the tire size (rim width is marked on the tires) but most of the time, farmers would "upsize" their tires by one size on the existing rims and it would work just fine.

The W9 cleaned up nice...just curious, it is stamped E.W.G FIRESTONE W9 - 24 on the inside. Also, on the search for salvage rim to match. JP doesn't have one and neither does a few others. I placed a wanted to buy on a couple of sites. Open for ideas.

It was EWC, not EWG...EWC was the Electric Wheel Company purchased by Firestone in 1957. That tells me this was not the original rim since it's a 1955.
