SMTA hydraulic pump

I ordered a new hydraulic pump for my SMTA from this site. On the top of the pump there is a plug with a spring under it. My old pump didn't have it so wondering what it is for?

My thoughts as well. It has been used as a purging/priming port many times. It may relieve end frame leakage by reducing the effective pressure in the seal area. The seals are for sure not rated at system pressure. The spring is not strong enough to resist even modest pressure, and I think it is ported into the suction side. Jim
