560 Carb question

On my 560 gas I overhauled last winter, tractor runs beautifully has great power...
One nagging annoying new quirk it has it only wants to start at an extreme idle, there is no speeding the engine up while its warming up or it will stall, I hate mess with a bunch of settings on the Carb if it does eventually come out it..
Carb has been cleaned out with passages chased out and blown out from every direction..
Tractor cranks over fine also, but any setting other than idle it will not fire..
Thanks, bounce some ideas my way, its new trick drives me crazy...

It really don't seem to like any kind of choke either, I went out after I wrote this and decided I didn't have anything to lose, so I turned the top idle adjustment screw out to richer? 1.5-2 turns and the main fuel adjustment on the bottom out one half, it seemed to help? Or maybe the old girl just got warm enough it didn't mind ??
Im glad you wrote back janicholson, Im hoping you and the tractor vet and pete23 and ihtimmy help me out

Make very sure the choke is actually closing to intake horn as designed. It may have a flow control disc and light spring on the choke plate. Make sure it is not loose or broken. When the choke is working correctly, it should be cranked about 2 pistons worth, then the choke pushed in 1/4 of the way. Then feathering it in for a minute or two to allow it to warm a bit. Jim

The choke plate is definitely working and closing all the way, I loctited the bypass disc shut solid because my spring was shot..

Other than only wanting to start with the throttle setting at idle tractor runs great, it has a pertronix ignition to and new plugs, autolites btw

need to know the actuall settings you have the main jet at and the idle mixture. the idle mixture is OUT for LEAN. i have always found that screw set at 3/4 turn out from its seat makes he tractor run and start the best. main jet can be 4 turns out. set idle mixture with tractor at idle at 400 rpm. turn screw 1/4 turn at a time or really slowly to get the most rpm you can by ear. or hook at tach to it. i am quite sure its all in your carb adjustment.
make sure you have the timing set to spec. before even trying to adjust carb.

Before you go twisting all the screws on the carb.....the next time you get her running good and warmed up.....take some starting fluid and spray around the intake manifold (not in it, but around it).

If it surges you have a bad (leaking) intake manifold gasket......that will make them do exactly what you describe.
