irrigation tires

has anyone used irrigation tires on a tractor,? lets say for example on a farmall h, 11.2x38 , they seem a little cheaper than standard tires if your just gonna use the tractor for show or occasional drives

I've seen price comparisons between irrigation tires and "regular" tires. I would seriously consider
them. I've heard they may have fewer lugs, might shudder slightly when on hard pavement. That can be
controlled with air pressure.
The 11.2x38, old 10-38 looks kinda small on an H in my opinion, 12.4x38, old 11-38 looks more
proportioned to the tractor. Our old '39 H had 10-38 Good-Years, Super H had 11-38 Firestones. I remember
harrowing plowed ground with the '39 H with 20 ft pegtooth harrow, tractor tried pulling it easily in 4th
gear, 5 mph. so much slippage. Pulling the 24 ft peg tooth harrow with the Super H in 4th gear, 6-1/2 mph
was a tough pull because tires slipped much less. Later on with clamp-on duals and NO slippage Super H
really struggled pulling 24 ft harrow. In hilly fields ran in 3rd gear, 5 mph, still no slippage.
Dad planted corn & beans with the Super H with duals,

I had 11.2x38 irrigation tires on my SuperH.I hated them. that said, they were sufficient for it. The tread bars were half as high and 1 1/2 times further apart than normal rear tires. They seemed to wear just as good as normal tires and were $200 cheaper per tire.Fine for paradeing and just poopin' around.

The 12.4x38 is the only size that looks correct on a Farmall H, but measure the width of the rims before you decide. A 10" wide rim will accept a 12.4 just fine. If the rims are 11" wide, you might want to step up to a 13.6x38.

I have a set on my H, they were a lot cheaper to buy than a "regular" tire. The tractor had 12.4-38s on it, one completely failed, the other would have soon. Sure
I would have liked to have purchased a new set of 12-38s, but on my budget, and having nine "play" tractors that are always needing something, I opted for the
11.2-38 Irrigation tires, I think they look fine, they definitely look better than seeing the tractor tilted over to one side and not being able to play with. I
have seen some even cheaper ones listed with the bars spaced very far apart, I don't think I'd like looking at those every day, but if that's all your budget will
allow so be it...Tom
