766 motor repacement options

direct replacement engines would be 312, 360, 414, 436, 466. Anything these should fit without any serious modifications, just swapping parts.

Is it a gasser now? Bad engine?

Frame wise, the tractor is the same as a 966, 1066, 1466. Even the bolt holes for a 400 series engine are in the frame rails.

Easiest to find and easiest to install would be a 400 series out of a 66 series tractor. If it's a turbo engine though, take it easy. It has the "lightweight" drivetrain. My personal preference would be a non-turbo 414 out of a 966.

I have a dt414 from a 915 combine in mine. Have to get a fuel tank, breather, and fan from a 1066. I have never heard of a lightweight drive
train like another poster said. I think it is the same tractor as a 966, except for the engine. I have a Nebraska test book, and ther isonly 300 lbs
difference in a 766 and a 966 when neither is weighted, and about 800 between a 766 and a 1066.i don?t use mine as a 1066. I just pull the
original implements faster and easier. I didn?t add any more weights than it had either. I would rather spin the wheels than break something.
