International 454 transmission

Hello, I need a little insight on my tractor. I was using my tractor today when it appears my range (HI/LO/Reverse) selector quit working. It is now stuck in reverse. Upon inspection I noticed that the "arm" on the side of the transmission broke. It appears it was on something like a rod that went inside the transmission. Will this be a hard fix? Will the tractor have to be split to fix it? Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, see caseih.com parts link below, I believe it is item #1 that has sheared off.

From archives:
Broken Shifter Lever:
I have changed many of those parts, at the Case-IH dealer, where I have worked. You can remove the lever and replace it by the left side of the rear transmission. Just drain the oil, remove the MCV control valve, remove the plate that holds the hydraulic pump and filter. With a shortened 7/8 open wrench, loosen the sealed nut, remove the broken shaft and replace with the new one. It has a big spline for the timing. Just align the short lever with the fork.

454 Range transmission levers

I have replaced a couple of those-it is a small shaft with a welded arm on the outside, and splined arm held on with a nut on the inside. You don't have to split the tractor, but you need to remove the transmission top cover. And to do that, you have to remove the fuel tank and fenders. Cheap on parts, but lots of labor. Not really hard, you need a way to lift things though. Mark.

Thank you for the information. I am going to attempt this myself. Any other insight will be appreciated.
