Steering Gearbox Leakin

Rebuilt the steering gearbox on my 1955 International 100 Farmall. Much to my disappointment, it's leaking oil at the base apparently from the main shaft that connects to the arm. Any chance it might seal itself or should I just go ahead and take it apart?

I think you might see now why many recommended corn head grease when you originally were asking about the steering gearbox. I would just
drain it and fill it full of the grease, leak will be gone, or rip it apart again and hope for the best.

Did you put a new seal in it when you rebuilt it? if so a new seal won't help unless the one you put in got damaged on install. If there is a groove in
the shaft where the seal touches a speedy sleeve may fix it. Mobil1 red synthetic grease, or Corn Head grease will also limit leakage and lube well.

It was a complete rebuild with new gaskets, seals, and bearings. It's always a possibility of accidentally damaging seals on installed. I'll give the grease a try. Beats tearing it down again.

About 2 years ago the steering box on my 140 decided to start leaking and over a fairly short period most of the oil leaked out. I was going to
rebuild it, but after investigating the rebuild procedure I decided to try the corn head grease. I got 3 tubes and put a grease fitting in the drain
hole. Took about 1 1/2 tubes to fill it up to the level plug. It leaked a little after that, but I think was residual gear oil still in there. No significant
leaks anymore.

Is the fill plug vented? I know on the Cub the plug has a hole in it to relieve pressure when it gets warm.
