Need rims for a IH 2444/444

Hi :)
Not sure yet if I do or not, but it's possible the tire place is not going to be able to repair the rim on the big back wheel of my IH 2444. I'm wondering what the chances are that someone here has an old dead 2444 or 444 that has intact rims that can be bought cheaply. The place on the rim I hod noted as rust turned out to be bare tube showing through, ewww. They took it to try to weld it, the last I heard they couldn't weld it and were looking for a new or used rim for me, and then no contact. I called and left a message, no reply (possible they are out of town.) So they might have it under control, might not. Just wondering if I have other options.
Anyone within 6-8 hours drive of Springfield, MO have a dead 2444 or 444 they are parting out? Inquiring minds want to know....

I do not know that tractor as such but I am sure there are other tractor that use the same rim. So if you put in the tire and rim size and number of lug nut holes it has would help you help your self. By the way your about 75 miles from me and who knows I might have what you need

Old: Unfortunately, I don't know specs at all right now. If I end up having to do this, I'll get better info. Like I said, no reply at all from tire folks, so I really have no clue what's going on. All I'm sure of right now is "standard issue on a 2444/444"
And you are close, I'd love to have to only go that far....

Dblair: Thank you for the info! I'm learning all this stuff slowly :)

If I saw the rim I might even be able to tell you if it could be fixed or not. Over the years I have repaired a good many rims and some that I was told could not be fixed but I fixed them any how. I also have been known to fix tires. By the way my e-mail is open

The guy who does their welding is good with horrifying rims, I haven't talked to them, but if he said it wasn't weldable, he's probably correct, he saw it before it came off and said "yeah, I can probably do it." I have not talked to him since it was taken off. When they removed it, it was really corroded inside. I would guess that in order to get back to solid metal to weld on, it would have to have half of the arc of the rim removed.
I'll keep you up on it as I find out more.

I hate not knowing what's going on, are they ordering me something that costs a fortune? I hope not, I can't afford it. I told her money was an issue on this, I hope she isn't doing something expensive. This is why I tossed this out, to see if I might have other options.

I understand the $$ thing. That is why my shop cost me less then $500 to build but yet has many times that much just in tool in it. It is also why I do not throw much of any thing away since most of the time I can figure out a way to recycle it into something I can use. Shoot I have deer stand that I built form old bed frames or water pipe or even parts of a bar-b-que grill

Todd Stauffer: Thank you! Wrote down your number, so if you want to edit it off, I have it :)

I hope to get pictures and measurements this morning.

Old: I agree, I'm a reuser too, I scavenge all kinds of odd stuff and do all kinds of odd stuff with it :) One of my favorites is making curved arbors out of dead trampoline parts. My last house had a huge one I made that had wisteria covering it, lovely place to sit! And those arched pieces of metal frame were brought home on the roof of a car that I had bolted an old army bedframe to, you can bungee from anywhere to anywhere on bedsprings, and it will carry anything you can get up there. The local cops learned my car when I was dumpster diving at weird hours "oh, it's just her, she doesn't make messes, offend people or steal things, ignore her." They'd hit me with their light, move on, easy to ID me with a car with a bedframe on the roof.

Years ago I dumpster dived also till I found that the owner of the store or home could have you arrested for stealing since up till it goes in the trash truck it is still owned by the store etc. But I have asked if it was ok for me to take something out of a dumpster at times.

Also I have learned to always keep an eye on my tractor parts if one can like tires and rim because I have ben ripped off before. Sadly my trust in other people has gone way down due to having so much stolen from me in the past

Ok, measurements, following the directions at HeyWheel (http://heywheel.com/page5.html)
Any numbers that might not be exact have a ~tilde~ in front of them. I had one bare axle and one fully tired and wheel weighted wheel to get measurements off of.

[color=blue:57a1348e80]Rim diameter: 25 inches
Rim width: ~12 inches
Pilot hole: 6 inches
Center of bolt circle: 8 inches
Number of bolts: 8
Size of bolt holes ~5/8 of an inch
Holes flat or countersunk: ~flat
Backset: ~6.5 inches[/color:57a1348e80]

I'm about to run those numbers through HeyWheel and see what comes up.

One of those numbers may be wrong. I measured the rim diameter at 25 at the edges where the metal met the tire on the wheel that is on the tractor still. Not sure that was the correct place. HeyWheel shows one at 24 inches, but not at 25.

Before you go farther look at the tire it self and on the side wall should be the size of the tire. From what you have measured I would almost bet it is a 24 inch rim by 11 or 12 inches wide. An example of what you might see o nth side wall of the tires is this.

14.9X24 on 13 inch rim or other such markings. There are 25 inch tires but those are few and far between and used mostly on combines and I have a set of them laying around.

Old: you are psychic!
14.9 -24 on 13 inch rims 6 ply Goodyear

rfridy73: Cool, thank you, I didn't know about them! Noted :)

I don't know if I would go so far as calling me psychic as such I just know what many tractors have on them. LOL When I was in town earlier today I noticed a tire place had an old tractor tire laying in there pile. It was a 14.9 by 24 I think and appeared to still have some life left so I may check on getting it. Many times I get hem for the cost of hauling them home

I am guessing with the 13 x24 wheel it is also an 8 bolt. So there are a lot of wheels that would fit that hub. From rear combines to manure spreaders. All the same hub size and bolt pattern. You could even use a two piece deal with the plate and then a rim with the loops. Some of the older combines like a gleaner or deere from the 60's would have the one piece wheel that size and if it would clear would a 26 inch wheel work since they would also have the same bolt pattern.

(quoted from post at 10:28:58 07/01/18) Probably JP Tractor salvage in Fredrickstown.Mo.

Similar situation here in the east, anyone know of any tractor salvage yards in NC or VA? Need wheels but if l sat down for a moment I could come up with a shopping list.

From your measurements you have a 24x12 rim with pressed steel center with a standard "8 on 8" bolt pattern. Many different brands and models of tractors used that rim.

Odds are the tires have been "upsized" at some point in the tractor's life. Originally it probably had 13.6x24, which would fit on a 24x12 rim.

Are you open to moving up to 28 inch rims? There are probably more used 28 rims out there than 24s or 26s. Larger diameter tires would increase your ground speed some but would also increase your tire footprint for better traction and wear and they would also hold more liquid ballast.

Ok. Finally heard from the repair folks, they have not found a replacement rim.
I need a match, as I hoping to only replace the one damaged one.

BarnyardEngineering: Resized tires makes sense of some of the puzzling information I have seen, thank you!

ss55: Hopefully not moving up to 28 inch rims, trying for $$ reasons to just replace the shot one. Two is way more money than I can spend here. I'm not able to mount these etc myself, having to pay repair folks who make pasture calls. If I can't get one, I'll be looking for a set that has tires on them already, to cut my money outlay. If I have to do that, I'll have to measure if it will handle 28s, although that makes that tractor taller, and it's already too big for me to do a lot of things on it myself.
I had to get an extra step welded on it to be able to get onto it. I'm a small female, over 50 years old, and I'm getting my tail kicked here. I bought this because I could afford it, my smaller tractor got stolen, and has not shown back up, and I had to take what I could possibly afford, as a second tractor was NOT in my budget.

When I got replacement rims and tires for my 2444 they came off a newer International but I think they were originally on a Ford. When the IH white paint has chipped off there is Ford blue paint.

I was going to replace just the rims and reuse my centers but I got this pair of wheels and tires for $500, not muck more that what it was going to cost me for the rims and shipping. Tires were about 75% tread left on them.
