1206 restoration

Here are a few pictures I thought I would share of a tractor I have been working on off and on for 3 years. It belongs to someone else but I did all the
mechanical work. The paint was done by a local body shop. The sheet metal has a Base/clear finish and it is like a mirror! The tractor sat in a grove for 10
years and the rain cap leaked letting water into the engine. It has a rebuilt engine and new TA.

It has one issue that maybe the Farmall brain trust can help me out with. When the engine is revved up over half throttle and brought back to idle once in a while the MCV valve starts making a high pitched whining noise that goes away if you bump the dump valve lever a little bit. I have it adjusted according to the manual and the light on the dash goes out just before it starts to move per an IH mechanics instructions. Any other ideas on what could cause this? It is kind of annoying!

What kinda pump is in it.Had a 1456 once I and my mechanic thought had a bearing out in transmission but was just noise from a cheap foriegn made pump

looks good! I have been think down the road I would like to redo one, however I have my winter project 1964 706-d. I have bid on a few at auctions but someone else wants it more then me at the time, looks like you did a real good job.

Congratulations Travis! Beautiful job! I can't imagine the hours you have in that tractor. The only thing I would change is the stack. It looks a little goofy with the obvious reduction so far above the hood. I would use a stack the correct diameter or only slightly bigger with a much less obvious reduction. Enjoy your tractor!

What brand of paint did you use? Did you use a single stage urethane or enamel on the rest of the tractor, or the same urethane base as the sheet metal, just no clear on the rest?

I'm just curious because I've painted them with single stage urethane all over and then cleared just the sheet metal and it looks great all over, but the parts with the clear hold up much better over time.

Thanks, I could not agree more on the stack. We ordered most parts from Steiner and I was disappointed when I opened the box. Should have sent it back. I don't know why anyone would want that big stack on top of a 4" pipe. It does look very goofy! I think I will talk the owner into finding a more appropriate stack.

As far as the paint, I am not sure what brand they used. It was done by a local body shop in pieces and I re-assembled. I know the tin work is base clear but the rest I think is single stage.
