So my neighbor has a 574 that has had a rough life. He got a rebuilt distributor and after he put it on it would not start. We drug it to my place and I found a few things. But it still runs rough and does not start up right away. It will cough and backfire. Things I found so far, Distributor was 180 off, points were not even opening, intake manifold gasket was blown out, valve lash was about .065, old bad gas in the tank. Some time in the past he has had trouble with it burning the points. Also the bushings in the distributor were worn. It has a riser on it to run the tach cable. The worm that drives the tach cable is missing. When I put my timing light on it the spark seams to be all over the place. I don't have a service book for a C-200 engine. Has anyone got the spec's for these. Like points gap, plug gap, valve lash adjustment and timing. I have it hooked up to a small gas tank with fresh gas, I have replace the points with the correct ones and set them at .022, I have replaced the condenser with a new one, replaced intake manifold gasket, adjusted valves to .014 cold, replaced the plugs and gaped them at .035. Also this model should have an anti dieseling solenoid. The coil is still there, but the needle is gone. I am sure I have over looked somethings. Would like to learn from some one else's experience!
