Rear Light Ground For Super C

I got my tractor lights rewired. On first try, one out three lite up. I worked with the right headlight until I got a good ground on it too and it lite up. However, the rear light is still a problem. When I do a ground to the reflector, I can get the red light to light up but not the main bulb. I have tried three different bulbs (all new) so I do not think it is the bulb. Plus when I put my tester in there and ground the other end, I get voltage. So something is not working in the guts of the rear light. I assume a bad ground. Any suggestions on how to ground the rear light? Or any other troubleshooting suggestions regarding getting the rear lights to work. Thanks

The socket that has the big llamp is not electrically grounded (rust is likely). I would solder a copper wire to the side of the big lamp socket(bulb
out, shiny and clean with electronic rosin core solder, and 50+ watts of soldering iron) I would solder the other end to either the body of the housing,
or the other bulb socket. Jim

I didn't even solder mine. I took a piece of solid copper wire, wrapped it around the socket and twisted it good and tight. Then connected the other end to the body of the light.
Soldering it would be better, but so far this is working good.

I ran separate green ground wires to the lights on my H, hose-clamped them to the sockets, and it works great.

Well, I did the soldering and wiring but the main light will still not come on. The small red light does. I even switched the wires to the switch so the main light wire went to where the small red light did and vice versa Still just the small red light come one. I thought I was getting electricity to the main light socket, but maybe not. I do not remember what I have test now but I have ran out of time for today. When I put it all back together, the red light only worked when I ran a wire from the screw that held the rim on to a good ground on the tractor The main light still will not turn on. I am using 1156 bulbs for a 12 volt system since the tractor is now 12 volts. I would think a ground or broken wire and I will do more trouble shooting later. Thanks

Some times it is a matter of tipping a small finger of the holder in so it makes tighter contact to the bulb. Added to this one may have to polish up the concact point ( center if the socet) and even solder in a new wire , taking out the old concting to e switch.

Thanks. I have polished it but I have not tipped a small finger of the holder or replaced the wire. I will try them when I get time to get back to this project.

Well, I worked on it for about an hour this evening. I can get the red light on when I establish a good ground, but I cannot get the main tail light to turn on. I checked the wire and electricity gets through it. I soldered a copper wire to the fixture and then to the frame of the light. I checked and my test light indicated a ground. I added a bit more solder to the connection inside the fixture. I bent one of the prongs of the holder in a bit more. I tried three different light bulbs. I tried grounding to bolt on the tractor and then touching the other end to parts of the fixture. Still nothing. I think earlier I had switched connections on switch to see if it made a difference and still only the red light came on. I might try that again just to make sure it did it right. Should be simple enough to keep track of which wire goes to which screw. The knob switch itself feels rough, but that little set screw that holds the knob is in there tight. Maybe at some point I will try replacing it but not sure it is the problem since the red light goes on. Color me frustrated.

I finally got it. For some reason the center of bulb must not have been making connection with the wire coming in. I flattened both the bulb connection and the wire connection and it worked. I also made a separate ground wire from the light to a bolt on the tractor. I figured it had to be something but it was frustrating to not to find it easily. Thanks for the help.
