Muffler IH 544

I have Tinnitus 24/7 and usually wear ear plugs and a headset to reduce my exposure to noise, I was wondering what is the best( quietest) muffler I can buy, I have been using a Stanley recommended for that Model. Does anyone know if there is a muffler with better baffles that would work?
Thank you,

Factory oem. Or get a car muffler that is well baffled.Putting a curved pipe on the end and pointing it away from the operator can help reduce exposure some.

I agree with the oval shaped car muffler, when i was a kid, i did that on my dad's H, it didn't look good, but was quiet.

That is what I was thinking, I asked the Mechanic that does my work and overhauled this 544 he didn't recommend it. Could create too much back pressure and I was worried about building up too much heat.

My Farmall cub came to me with an exhaust that goes under the tractor and exits out the rear. Has one inline resonator, approx 4" dia. Fitted tightly to the torque tube.

Now granted its only 60 cubes but its sooo quiet. I didn't even wear earplugs the first time out, mostly to hear any weird noises since I'm running it for the first time in ~20yrs. But again, I was shocked at the low sound level.

But, I am used to mowing with the Super A which is a vertical stack and earplugs are standard issue. I think if one could figure out how to route an exhaust pipe down under the rear axle it would be a lot quieter due to the length. It would be many bends and probably some joints as its got to be hard to handle the long piece.

I agree, the exhaust is pretty much at drivers head level, back in the 50s-70s protection from loud noises was not a big concern.
I called Stanley to see if they had any recommendation's, still wait for a call back.
Does anyone know if a car muffler would harm the engine? My inlet is 2-3/8" I.D.

Steiners tractor parts sell a baffled muffler IHS1930 for a 544. I have a Farmall 450 with a baffled muffler and back pressure hasn't hurt the performance of tractor and very quite.

A car muffler will NOT hurt the engine in any way. Most cars have engines with considerably more cubic inches than your 544.

I has a Stanley muffler on my H and my ears would ring after using it. One of my parts tractors had an IH muffler on it so I put it on. Much much better prolly half the noise the Stanley made.

put a street L on the manifold and then nipple and a 90 bring the exhaust pipe down by the air cleaner then back not hard to do you will need to take tractor to muffler shop
