H Ammeter Box Gets Hot

Box gets noticeably hot when the head-lights are on. [12V Delco alternator, installed many years ago.] The thing runs cool normally, but in evening it gets hot to the touch, lights are only on Dim. Original incandescent lights, not LEDS. Any opinions? Anything to worry about? Thanks.

On the "dim" setting, the electricity is fed through a resistor. Resistors do get warm. MAYBE this what is going on. Does the box get warm when the lights are on bright?

When lights are used on the "D" (dim) setting the box will indeed become noticeably warm. However it heats up with the lights on "B" (bright), there's a problem (high resistance) with the switch.

There's a coiled resister on the Dim post of the light switch to reduce current flow to the headlights. That resistor glows red hot when the switch is in the dim position. That's whats heating up your electrical box. Turn the switch to Bright or OFF.

I removed the resistance coil from the switch on my Super H, dim is the same as Bright now, no heat, no worry about a fire.
