My Farmall C is seeping a little coolant around the head gasket. So...I decided to try retorquing the head bolts. Put a torque wrench on those outside the valve cover and sure enough they moved at less torque than spec. So valve cover off and start to remove the rocker arm assembly so I can get to the head bolts. Won't budge!! I had wondered (while setting the valve clearance) previously why the studs that hold the valve assembly looked bent. After much prying and choice words, finally got it off. Found the problem. The last person that had it off did not line up the notch in the rocker arm shaft with the bolt hole. Duh!! Wonder why they did not realize that something was wrong when the thing would not go down!! You can see the hammer marks where they forced it and it even looks like they ground the sides off the studs to make it go. Anyway I'm off now to find some new studs before I put it back together. Each of the head bolts moved about a half turn. Hope that fixes the coolant seepage.

Hi Haas: I had the same problem when I restored my super c. The person didn't noticed that in the rocker arm assembly there is the half moon cut out to fit over the studs. Have fun! Bob

Sounds like a case of the prior mechanic, "Getting a bigger hammer" 'cause it wouldn't go on with the regular bell curve claw hammer. Good luck getting it back on right with the new bolts/FB
