Hello

new to tractors and purchased my first Farmall Super A. Starter blew. Purchased new one from YT. Bench test works. Hook up and will not fire at all. Tested voltage , battery etc. Makes a pop/spark at the positive terminal sometimes when I engage the starter switch. Just a connection problem? or something else? Stumped. thanks for any advise

You have a simple not clean not tight not bright problem. ALL battery cable connections need to be clean tight and bright or you get that. Plus where the starter mounts need to be free of rust and dirt and paint

if is 6 volt, run a new ground cable to one of the starter bolts and clean connections until they shine . if it is 12 volts, clean connections until they shine

In this case,,your spark at the positive terminal is your clue.If you put a load on a circuit,(trying to crank the engine),and there is a bad connection,it may arc,or it may not.If it arcs,it is easy to find.If not,use a meter,or test light, and check every terminal, and terminal end.So if you have voltage at the battery post/terminal,but lose voltage on the terminal/cable end at the post,it is a bad connection. You have to check this while putting a load on the circuit. I actually just had this problem yesterday.Battery cable was tight, the cable end/terminal and the battery post where tarnished=no start! Cleaned them both, and it started.Mark.
