Farmall H Distributor Question

This probably sounds like a strange question…. I have a 1949 Farmall H and my distributor sits straight up (vertical). Many pictures I seen shows the distributor sitting horizontal. The only modification to my tractor was converting the electrical system from 6 volts to 12 volts by the prior owner. Any reason why my distributor is different? I could post a picture later today if that would help.

If you go to the local auto parts store in need of points, condensor, rotor, cap, etc., The parts man will not find them listed in the IH section. He needs to look under the Allis-Chalmers section.

I have a 1940 M, and a 1950 H equipped with the Delco distributor.

Back in the day it was common to
replace the original magneto with a
Delco 1111411 distributor. They were
used on other tractors and are easier
to tune than Farmall.
