Recently purchased the top tank emblem for my 1936 W-30 from Rice Equipment; says "McCormick Deering" and goes across radiator- my question is this - the emblem is all silver- or aluminum. I have seen some painted black - is there a right or wrong to the color on this emblem. Thanks.

I have a 1936 W30 that was originally painted gray that I bought in 1966. I believe the emblem is black/gray with silver or aluminum letters. I will try to take a picture tomorrow. Al

Hey thanks; my tractor is painted red- hope thats right? A bit late now- a pic would be great help- thanks.

If it is 1936 (1936 production year, before 1st November 1936) then it should be grey with red wheels. After that all red.

Athol carr is right they changed to red after Nov.1 1936. I have never seen a emblem on front of a red W30. The name Mccormick Deering is cast into top tank of radiator and lettering is painted.

I bought mine last year and it was red- so I repainted it red...guess it will stay. The top of the radiator housing has no letters cast into it- but 4 screws in the tank for this emblem I bought. So..... it is aluminum emblem so need to paint it somehow. Thanks.

I don't know the date offhand, but the later ones were not cast into the top tank any more and used the aluminum emblem, I suppose they saved a few bucks by not having to cast separate top tanks for McCormick-Deering vs International. badging, just add whichever emblem.

Banjoman, Here are the pictures of the emblem on the front of my 1936 W30. This is an original emblem as I bought this tractor from the original owner in 1966. Hope this helps. Al

Yes it does; so do you think the letters were white? I cant tell; and the rest of it aluminum....thanks!

I believe the letters are aluminum and the back ground is painted gray like the rest of the tractor. I took the emblem off when I painted the tractor back in 1966. So the emblem you see is the way it came from the factory and as it looked in 1966.

I was not aware that when they changed to the red paint, the letters were cast in the radiator frame. So I guess that if a tractor has cast letters, it was painted red. If no letters, then it came from the factory as a gray tractor. I bought this tractor on steel but put rubber on it because it cut up the yard too much. The reason the original owner sold it to me was that they black topped his road and he couldn't drive across it any more. Al
