Farmall M wide front saddle

I have a wide front currently on my M and while doing some maintenance on the front end wheel bearings etc I decided to replace the bushings in my center tube they were worn very badly and after replacing the bushings I replaced the center tube pivot pin to tightened everything back up. While I was doing this I took off my saddle and got a new stay ball socket and cap now the problem I am having is that I can?t get the saddle back on no matter if I pull the pin out some and try to wiggle the saddle on it will not squeeze in the frame rails it?s to tight, the pivot ball on the wish bone appears to now be to far up. I even tried putting the old stay ball socket on with no luck. I know I can mill some off of either the saddle or stay ball socket to make it fit but this has got me scratching my head as to why it won?t fit back on? Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like you have a late(706 and up) wide front. It should bolt right up. Maybe you got something out of line when you rebuilt it.

If you had a picture it would help greatly. I have the basic idea of what's happening but hard to give detailed advice without seeing what you are seeing.

Does the saddle have a number on it? If not far off you could shim the 4 bolt pivot casting to drop it a little if it's the wide front I think you have. But if the ball on wish bone is out of line with pivot pin, with tractor jacked up you will feel resistance when pivoting the front when they bind some if out of line. Had to bend a few wish bones to get every thing lined up before. Or use thin shims under pivot casting or the ball socket depending on direction needed. Bushings and pivot pin probably wore enough so the saddle height wasn't as critical before.

I believe I will have to bend the wishbone in order to fit the saddle and stay ball socket in there. The part number is 360408R1. Out of curious how did you bend your wishbone David was it still on the tractor?

Saddle is the right number. Raised tractor and bolted a extra set of frame rails to side rails down with channel iron across under those. If needing to raise wishbone I placed a ratchet jack with curved head under pivot pin casting at front with a lot of tractor weight placed on it then a hydraulic jack under wish bone on frame channel rigged up. To lower wishbone I used a heavy duty ratchet binder cut down with short chain pulling wishbone down after moving the ratchet jack back under the rear of pivot pin support below pin. bend them without heat but just talking about 1/2 inch or less. Poor people have poor ways, probably a better way.

Thanks for your reply, I just tried putting the wishbone on the front of the tractor and jacking the tractor up with blocks under the wishbone then lowering the jack rapidly so the wishbone will come in contact with the Wood first with the weight of the tractor but no luck it didn?t budge the wishbone I may have to come up with a plan like you mentioned but now just grinding a little of the saddle does sound pretty good but I want that to be my last resort

If wishbone is to high putting shims between upper bolster and the pivot pin casting at the mounting bolts will lower wishbone.

I have had that problem and could always just take the weight off the axle would solve the problem. The new pins and bushings mad things tight. Also have had to loosen the mounting plate casting the axle pivots on some too. We dril that socket for a grease fitting to grease them also. 806,856,1466. The 1466 Had the steering hoes in the way of the grease fitting so had to take it back out.
