Cub transmission fluid

Looked everywhere in our manuals
and I can't seem to find if the
PTO shaft and transmission share
fluid. Filler hole on top ,but
that pours in around PTO shaft.
Does it go from there to
transmission? 1950 cub. Thanks!
I'm guessing there is a full plug
somewhere?

only takes 3.5 pints of gear oil and the full plug is on the left side of the transmission kinda behind the fender should be a small square headed plug

And yes, that same 3 1/2 pints lubricates transmission, differential, etc. There is an opening in the bottom of the divider that lets the oil get to the gears.

Thanks. As soon as the cub comes home from Red Power Roundup we will check it out. Transmission sounds like dry gears. But there is fluid in there , we added some when PTO shaft fell out a few weeks back. Is it possible something is plugged up keeping fluid from tranny?

Barnyard engineering, simple as
that? Nothing will fall out,
springs ect? Easy to line back
up? Thanks

That easy, but I havent heard many Cubs that didnt groan. My 49 hollers something fierce, and my 154 (same basic transmission, whines a good bit, but not as bad as my Cub.

If you folks want to remove that "oil level" plug let me clue ya. Had
to remove the left wheel, then the left disk, and then the left
fender. NOW you can get that plug out. All I can say is that mine
must have been put in with super glue. Had to use a brand new size 10
vice grips to get it out. A nice new brass plug with a wrap of teflon
is so much nicer!!! Take the top of the tranny off and look in. You
should have about an inch of 90wt. oil. Easiest way. Hard to imagine
that is the same tranny as a Cub Cadet lawn mower.
