I'm a john deere person but I bought a M farmall and I tried to tighten The fan belt . Well the coupler broke right away. I didn't get rough with it but it broke. Now how hard is this to replace? does radiator have to come off? thanks rick

my 400 has an adjustable sheave. I believe your M is the same. There is a set screw with a jam nut that locks it in place. After you loosen the set screw you rotate the adjustable part to loosen the belt. That must be the part that is broken, correct? I think the fan blades can be removed and then the rest of the assembly can be removed without removing the radiator. I had one of mine break and I had it repaired. I did not remove the radiator.

The fan belt should be pretty loose compared to belts on most equipment. Serious thumb pushing should be able to push it about an inch and quarter to an inch and a half. tighter wears out the WP bearings. Someone may have tweaked yours ahead of your effort. I think it can be taken off W/O rad removal, but you will need to watch what touches what, disconnecting the fan shroud may be needed. Jim

we repaired it today also took manifold off and welded hole up on it all is well now thanks, those nickel rods are 4 dollars a piece
