Extra long h axels

I bought a h for the wide front but after looking at it when I got it home the rear axels are longer than normal. Never seen this or heard anything like this , anyone have any ideas or info?

Extra 'long' axles were an option. They were likely to be found in furrow irrigated areas where they grew sugar beets,onions,potatoes,vegatables....There several examples 'here'. Includeing an H I used to own,and the SuperM I have owned since '82.Do NOT,repeat, Do NOT cut them off!The wide front,or a single front were common where those long axles were found.

Optional equipment is shown in the operators manual and parts books. 100 inch axles were an option. Think 88 inch was stock. When we got the Super H the wheels were dished out and set out about 4 inches on each side so the end of the axles didn't hit every fence post at every gateway, tear every doorway of every shed/barn up, catch the bale chute on the baler, or cave in the grain tank on the pull type combine. First thing Dad did was slide the wheels to the axle carriers and cut about 4 inches off each axle. There's still enough axle to mount dual hubs if you wanted to run duals. Dad welded up a set of clamp-on duals we used any time we did fieldwork with it, like planting corn, harrowing, etc.

Has the optional axles or if a real late H the longer axles like a SH. SH standard axles 4 inch longer on a side than most H but still not long as the wide tread ones.

My Dad had an M with the 100 inch axles. We didn't really need them but that is how the tractor was outfitted and they were not a problem. Swapped sides with the wheels so there wasn't a lot of axle extending beyond the wheel.

I have a "48 H that had long axles but they were cut off before I bought it. I wish the person who cut them off would have listened to Delta Red's advice. I don't need long ones but wish they hadn't been cut off.

Next question, I haven't done anything with the tractor yet, it's still all original, like I said my plan was to rob the wide front for my sh and put the narrow front on this and resell it, this one still runs and the tires are good , is it worth more all together or can I rob the wide front?
