Starter has constant hot

I have a Super A and a 140 both have a constant hot on the starter. I am assuming it is a wiring problem. Both are 12v alternator conversions. I just disconnect the negative cable when I park for the evening.

Of course I do have the switch off.

This is a crude drawing of my 140.

Any thoughts?

That is correct, it should go to a contact button on the starter. It only completes a circuit when the button is depressed. Honestly if everything is wired correctly and starter button is not worn out and grounding no need to unplug the battery unless it gives you piece of mind.

should look like this

thanks for this, the starter switch is good I just thought it would run the battery down.

(quoted from post at 12:23:30 06/07/18) That won't run the battery down. There may be other things in the system running the battery down, though.

Is the battery getting run down?
Yes it is.

Yes it is. I did wire in a dummy light(to excite the alternator)

Some one wire alternators draw current in excess. If you take out the fuse indicated in your drawing, and put an portable amp meter in its place you
will find out if it is the draw. Start with a 10 amp setting then switch to lower ranges. If over an amp, it is dramatic. A safe draw might be 100
milliamps. (.1 amps) 100 ma will take a month or so to draw down the battery. Jim
