IH 484 Brakes

I have an IH 484 with a brake problem. The brakes will not work unless I pump them 5 or 6 times then they will hold. If i bleed them they will work properly for a few hours them I'm back to pumping them or bleeding them again. I replaced both master cylinders with new CIH parts but this did not help. I did not replace the equalizer valve because of the cost. I'm thinking about bypassing the equalizer valve to see if this will give me dependable brakes. Anyone familiar with this model have any idea where to look for the problem? My other tractors green so these small IHs are new to me.

You have found the one weakness that these tractors have. It's not the equalizer valve,(it's very expensive anyway). You need to replace the seals in the brake pistons in the axles. It's basically 3 o rings, not expensive, but lots of labor.Need to pull fuel tank, seat platform, and both rear wheels to pull the axles.Need to be careful when reinstalling the piston o rings not to cut it-you have to keep the piston square as you press it back in place. Change the hydraulic filter and the hy tran,too.Mark.

My 574 had the same issue several years ago, there was a kit available for the equalizer valve, and
that cured mine. Under 100.00 at the time.
