I picked up a 706 diesel for a winter project this coming year it a non runner but do not think much is wrong at worst case might need a in frame overhaul. it came form north Dakota on a auction, after I got it home as I had a hauler bring it down. looking at the tractor looks to be some ones last tractor as it has a new after market steps with a hand rail and some one labeled everything on it like key switch, horn, and on the throttle there is a label saying, don't forget to turn off key. my mom passed this past oct and it reminds me of the things you do for people or love ones that need that little bit of help that they did early in the lives with out thinking. or at least that what I think might have been the case, I going the e mail the guy I got it from and see if he knows the history. the other part is that a 706 was my first tractor when I was getting started but could afford to keep it and up grade to a bigger tractor, but that one I still have my 1466.

you are so right, I guess I should have spent more time in English class than shop. but shop was so much more fun.

In hindsight compared to what's on the market now (big horsepower) it seems like there were more (maybe unnecessary?) models than now. How many parts did a 706 share with an 806 such as transmissions?

I am by far an expert but on the mid range they still jump about 10 hp each that's on the 100 to 175 hp tractors and I talking caseih, the span is a little bigger over 175 hp. now as far as shared parts I know there was a lot of parts used by the same on maybe 3 to 4 models and maybe more as I know on the ones I have. I know the final drives on the 1566 and 1586 are only on those 2 tractors and the 3 speed trans is common between the 2 of them. but I am not sure exactly on the others. some of the others on here could jump in on that as the ih's I have are 706,1466,986,1586 and 584. now there are a lot of features that are the same on the 584 and it a 1981 model I think and my caseih c80 is a 2000 model, the 584 has a nuess motor and the c80 has a perkins. the rear ends are close to being the same with some improvements.

from the serial number its a early 1964 model with the 282 motor, the tires are 18.4 by 34's I think it looks that way due to not having fenders. the back tires are in good shape and the tractor doesn't look like it sat outside much.
