Can anyone tell me how to take the pto shaft off a 584. It needs replaced and I can't find out how to take it off. The one on it now is worn and everything I hook to it gets stuck on it. Thanks a bunch.

We did one where I work last year.If I remember correctly, all the details, and it is not easy, here goes. You have to drain all the transmission fluid.Remove the plate under the rear end-you may need to remove the draw bar. Some tractors had the plate on the right side, but I think that is the 74 series. Pull the shaft out below the 540 pto, 3 bolts in cover/retainer. There is a roll pin that holds it in.Drop out the pto clutch pack,as you pull out the lower shaft(could be a 1000 rpm pto) or not. That's the easy part. Now you need to remove the snap ring that holds the 540 shaft in. I physically cannot do it,because my hand is too big! My boss had to reach up in the narrow space with a special snap ring pliers, and spread the snap ring, and I pulled the shaft out. The whole job goes better with 2 people.
You may as well replace the pto clutches, hydraulic filter, and the seals while you are in there. Mark.

You have to remove the fuel tank the top three point cover to get that shaft out of there you do not have to do anything for the lower one unless it?s 1000 RPM but the 540 you got to take the trans mission three point cover off

Your way may be better than mine, but we did 1 or 2 from the bottom, but it is hard to reach the retainer snap ring from the bottom.Mark.
