IH 404 Carburetor Idle Adjustment Starting Point

With a rebuilt schebler carburetor where should I set the idle adjustment screw? For the simple-minded such as myself can someone clue me in such as turn it in to stop and back it out so far etc?

The '61-'62 404 ran great last year, added new plugs have all new parts to install next , points, cap, coil, new resistor etc. I had to go buy a distributor wrench to get to the coil bolt, new feeler gauges since I couldn't find them when I needed them. Even bought a timing light but since it ran so strong last year I don't imagine timing is the problem.

I don't live out there yet, much more work to do before that. Hour and a half from home now so it's frustrating to get out there to work and realize you don't have all the tools or parts you were supposed to bring with you. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

All the way in, and then back out 1 1/2 turns should get you in the ball park. If the tractor ran good the last time you used it, and you never touched the carburetor adjustments, then the problem lies deeper than just the adjustments.

Thank you for the help. The carb was rebuilt by a local dealer but some fool working on the tractor started making idle screw adjustments and forgot how many turns made. Luckily he only fooled about with the idle screw so that's all he messed up. I'll make sure he's more careful next time. Did I mention I was working on the tractor alone? Only help I can afford...
