Farmall F12 Temperature Gauge 37071D

The temperature gauge on my F12 is stuck on the D of cold. I can't find another that looks correct anywhere. However, more important to have a gauge that works. Does anyone know what the temperature range of the original gauge was in degrees F or C? I have considered contacting Rochester Gauges to make a new one, but not sure about price… could be frightening!

You are saying that all of the replacement guages on th market you cannot find an original. Have you put the sender in hot water to watch the nedle move maybe moving from hot water to cold and go back and forthe just mite get the nedle movement back

Good idea! I'll try it. I did put it in cool water and warmed it up to about 150 F, but the needle did not move at all. I'll try heating and cooling the bulb in water a few times and see what happens. I can probably fit a different gauge, but the sight of the thing would probably irritate me; Rochester still make the same size gauge or I could fit a Murphy Swichgage.
I am spending a fair amount of time, effort and money on this tractor, so it would be good to get it right. In truth, a gauge which reads water temperature at the bottom of the radiator was probably not a brilliant setup, but that's what it had.

SadFarmall,

I had 2 nos gauges that your looking for I am down to my last
one. The last one sold for $375.00 US I would need that again
to sell my last one.

I got mine, years ago, from Rice. The only time I have seen it move is when I put the bulb in hot water to make sure it worked when I put it in.

I believe the original ones did register. My grandfather fitted one to his kerosene F12 and wrote in his diary, that it showed he had been running the engine too cold. The problem with the gauges currently available is the scale. The F12 needs a gauge with a full scale deflection well under 212 F, as the water at the bottom of the radiator is relatively cool. I could fit a temperature unit to the oil plug under the magneto, which might do something. Really, it would be better to have a gauge reading cylinder head temperature. A murphy swichgage is looking more and more likely, even though it is not 'original'.
