I think I fixed it........

Ten days or so ago, I posted about oil pressure going away on one of my H's when it warmed up.

I dropped the pan, plastigauaged the bearings, and found them to be within spec. I then turned to the oil pump. The cover plate didn't show any wear, but I clamped both the main body and the cover plate in a vise and drew a flat file over them. I was surprised at the high and low spots. I went over both with the flat file until there were no high and low spots. Then when I reassembled it, I put a couple of flat washers under the spring in the relief valve. I put the pump back in and the pan back on last week, but never had a chance to run it for long.

Today I ran it for at least a half hour and the oil pressure stayed around mid gauge the whole time. So-it looks like the pump was the problem.

Good fix. The gear to end plate clearance should be between .0015 and .0005" measured with thin shim stock to get it to start locking up as the shim stock (a small piece stuck in active gear path)is touched by the cover and pushes on the gear. Jim
