1586 stuck in gear?

Yesterday I pulled the planter out to powerwash it. When I tried to put the 1586 in park it made a grinding noise so I slipped it back into neutral. When I let up the clutch the tractor moved forward in neutral. The lever will not shift into reverse, high or low, just neutral. I can put it in park if I move the 1-2-3 shift into a position between ranges but it stalls the tractor when the clutch is let up. It won't move into the other positions (H,L,R) at all. I eventually had to shut down the tractor. The service manager at CIH says that there is a bar under the seat with linkage and I need to manually flip this bar so it is parallel to the rear axle and that this should fix it. He is gone for the weekend so I thought I would bounce this off the experts here. I can see the bar back under there but it doesn't want to move...at least not with hand pressure. Am I on the right track? What is the best way to move this bar/linkage? I don't want to get hurt or break something. Thanks!

Pull the deck plate up and getthe linkage all back in placce , your shifter is getting enough ware on it now that ya jumped the gates also pull the panel on the side of the shifter . She is going to need a little loving care and rebuild . Or you may have snapped a shifter fork down in the range trans . Not there to see for myself . And NO i am not making a service call up there , service truck is down and waiting on parts .

The manager was right the easiest way is to take the floorboard up reach underneath there and move it what happened that detents inside the transmission are gone this spring is so you got to be very careful to when you get it back into neutral when you shift it you got to be very careful and slow it happens all the time to international tractors it?s not fun to replace all that because you got to take the seat the shifter and the trans top off and it takes a special tools to do that or if you don?t have them you have to take the fuel tank off and then if you?re in 30 inch Rows well that means you got a slide the wheel out and 15 is probably one of the harder axles to slide

this was a common problem on the 86 series. start by tahing the shift knoks off and pull up the plastic cover over the handles. check the linkage alot of the time the high low linkage slips down into high. take a rod and pull it back up to neutral . you may have to run the engine and hold the clutch down while tugging on it.

Appreciate the help. It was under the seat. My wife was the one talked to our CIH guy. We were looking under there for the problem and she said she thought she saw it. Before I had a chance to look she had reached under, there was a snapping noise and she proclaimed it fixed. She was correct. I never even got my hands dirty! Works again!
