Oil spurting from dipstick hole

So I am a Farmall guy guy but have worked on all kind of tractors. I posted a message on the Ford forum but got no help. The question I have is a general one and not necessarily specific to the tractor I am working on. I have always received great advise from the guys on this forum so I was hoping it would be ok to ask.

Two cylinder diesel tractor spewing oil fro the dipstick hole while the tractor is running. Oil level was a little over full so I drained some oil out but it did not appear to be diluted with oil. I also confirmed that the blow-by tube was not plugged and loosening the oil filter cap did not change the guyser. So I am thinking there has to be something seriously wrong with this tractor for this to be happening such as rings, piston or maybe head or head gasket. I do not have a compression tester for diesel but looking for advise on what to look for and how to isolate before tearing it down.

What you need is a manometer to check back pressure . Now not knowing WHAT tractor and not knowing if it has and extended dipstick tube reaching down past the block hole that may have broken off that helps keep oil from being splashed out the dip stick tube i don't know for sure why you have this problem as i am not there to check back pressure and do not know the tractor your messing with . So you either have a HUGE back pressure problem or you have a WINDAGE problem.

I never thought of the dipstick tube itself being the issue. IT is a ford 1500 with a Shibaura 2 cylinder diesel. the dipstick hole is flush where it is on the side of the block just above the top of the pan. I will have to see if I can find some pictures of what it looks like on the inside. The tractor runs but does not run well but seems to be related to the diesel flow. You have to choke it to get it to start and then it seems to idle fine but will not handle a load and then seems to be running very rich. It is hard to say if it is black or blue as it smokes so much. At the same time of there are internal engine issues that could be the cause as well. I know that those engines had head problems but it seems if it was the head or head gasket it would have oil in the water or water in the oil and that is not the case. I did take the oil cap off while it was running and there did not seem to be a lot of pressure and it did not affect the spewing of oil.

Thanks for your help.

Curious, how do you ...choke... a Diesel engine? Unless it is a gas start IH engine. I would run a compression test on it to see if the cylinders are fairly equal. One way down in compression may tell you a a cylinder is blowing by a lot which could cause the oil to be pushed out. A two cylinder would have more pulsing if a cylinder was leaking by a lot.

Well myself i have NEVER been into one of them as the only BLUE paint i have worked on were Ford performance engines . BUT now from what your sayen is SON you have a huge problem and this engine is just about TOASTE and needs serious attention and there is no magic cure as in major engine work and fuel system work.

I just chock it by holding my hand over the air intake. Like I said, if I do tgat is starts right up. I do not have a diesel compression gauge. May need to invest in one.

Suffice it to say you are not going to find out what's wrong standing there staring at it while it coughs, sputters, smokes, and blows oil out the dipstick.

It's going to need major work for sure. No adjustment is going to fix it. You need to go back to the customer and ask them how much they want to sink into it. Is it worth your time digging into the engine to find out what's wrong. See if you can even get parts for the engine, and how much they cost.

The bright side is you should be able to do most of the work in a standard home garage with regular tools. Heck you and a friend can probably pick the engine up and carry it.
