Does anyone know is there a aftermarket spin on oil filter for a 1947 B or are the old style are available, inherited this tractor and just taking my time getting it ready to start. Thanks.

The original filters are available just about anywhere you want to look. Case-IH still has them, as do many auto parts stores and maybe even farm supply stores.

As I understand it, on some new cars, the old style, drop in filter is back in style again. I wonder why? Anyone confirm this?

adapter are available but expensive just get the original. It will take some time to get the old o-ring out or you can just leave it there and install new filter. Do not put a new o-ring in without removing the old one

Can anyone explain the fascination with converting these to spin-on filters? The old canister types are not THAT inconvenient, and it's not like you're changing the oil every day.

First time I changed oil and filter on my 1950 H, the Oring gasket was so hard I thought maybe it was actually part of the cast iron base. I kept picking and scraping at it and finally after about an hour, I decided it was good enough. The gasket did not come out in pieces. It came out in crumbs. I made a vow to NEVER let that happen again, and make sure to change that gasket each and every time.

On the 806 for example the o rings are upside down, so you definitely want to change them every time, but get this, The Baldwin co, doesn't even provide new rubber o rings, with their filters, so i called them and they said we can send you some,or you can buy them thru your dealer. Yea thank's for the inconvience.

NAPA does not include gaskets either.

True. I'd guess it's friendlier to environment though I understand most shops do recycle the cans. Probably cheaper by a hair and a way to keep both production and oil change costs down. Also you don't need clearance to get a wrench around them. All just guesses from me.

As for spin on replacement I don't see the appeal especially given the kit costs.

The Baldwin filters I have on hand ALL have new gaskets included.

Must be old ones! I have 1 on the shelf, I bought 3 last year. None of them had the Orings. The last one I got at a dealer, who is
no longer open, didnt have one either. That was 5 years ago.

The last IH filters I bought from dealer parts man went to a bin and got O ring and no charge( that was many be 6 years ago). Our Case-IH dealer went out of business about 3 years ago and my stock pile of IH filters is just about gone.

My last two VWs have cartridge type filters and I love them. They sit right up top by the engine cover. Super easy and clean to change. I wish they were all this way, nothing more fun than laying under a car getting an oil bath.

As far as letter series oil changes I don't get wanting to convert either.

The new CaseIH dealer is now in LaCrosse. Same great service. Many employees of the old dealers are there also.
