my cub started blowing white smoke, while mowing a roadside, i figured a blown head gasket, like the other one did, so i got one and pulled it apart, found a cracked block, which looked like it had been there awhile, the p o had to know it, it runs from just in front of number 1 piston back past number 2, i must have just finished it off, im done with cubs, there just not enough tractor for what im doing, that's 2 cubs with 2 engines down on the same piece of ground, im already in this one at top money, everything including the tires is new, or rebuilt, its a 1958 model had a woods mower and a 1 bottom plow with it, a friend wants to buy it but in this condition i dont know what to price it to him, any ideas? for replacement i plan to stay with at least a super C if not a good H

Boy that's rough. Honestly it's not worth too much since one without a blown motor isn't a huge amount either. Traditionally the way to price it would be the value minus the cost of the repair, and maybe a little less normally because you have to find someone willing to buy it. In this case you have a possible buyer who probably is familiar enough with your specific machine that they don't have to guess what else might need done. Honestly see what they're willing to pay for it and that might be a fair figure for both of you.

I have a 240 which is basically a later Super C and it's a fair tractor for mowing, and parts are easy to get (more for the Super C than for my 240, but they share many).

pull the block and have it repaired , If the bores are good pistons good then run a bottle brush up and down a couple times wash it out throw a new set of rings to it and maybe some new bearings and a gskt. set and she will be fine , ya want to make it better then throw in some 184 -185 pistons a head from either and a carb up grade and you will double the horse power . also ya may want to have the rad checked for flow , because it the tubes are half plugged she will not flow the water and this can lead to block or head cracking .

Not every tractor is for everyone, and if a Cub isn't big enough for what you want to do, it makes absolutely no sense to continue to beat your head against a wall trying to make it work.

Pricing. Don't sell yourself short. New tires will ad significantly to the value ($300-$400). So will any implements that go along with it. So depending on what comes with the package you may be looking at $800-$1000 even with a bad engine, maybe more.

thanks guys, ill get him to make an offer, hes going to let it sit and find a engine, [ nearest one i found is in strawberry point Iowa, that's 1300 miles away from me, making freight or going and picking it up a no deal, ] everything goes with it the mower which is good with new belt, plow , right hand hand control for it, ect no sense having cub parts if im upgrading tractors

I had a Cub and it was insufficiently powered. So I jumped up to the Super A which is just right for mowing. Also when you get out of the C60 you go to overhead valves and sleeved bores. Both good steps forward in power and longevity.
