Clutch pedal

My 504 clutch pedal was worn out in the pivot hole and also the shaft. I had a new shaft made and the hole in the pedal bored out and brass bushing installed. The hole was so worn I could tell for sure the proper angle so we guessed at it...?.. That didn't work! Now the front end of the pedal is a little to close to the tractor. I need to bend the clutch pedal about an inch. If it is cast iron it will break. So, does anyone know if it is cast iron or is it steel? I have access to a 60 ton press.

Not sure exactly what the material is, but have bent the brake side of tractors when the pedal was twisted so brake pedals lock was out of line or pedals to far apart and clutch pedals when needed. Used heat not red hot. Most are tough enough to bend a little without heat. Have cracked a couple but most no problem.

It will bend if heated at the bend to dull red. You might need to cool the bushing with wet rags to avoid heat damage. Let it air cool, no quenching. Jim

When you drill cast iron you get a very small chip, granular or powdery if the drill bit is dull. With ductile iron you will get a curly chip if the bit is sharp and you feed it at a good rate. We had identical castings that I balanced and they were made from both materials. When they got mixed into the same basket, I would use a hammer to identify them. The cast iron would make a dull sound and the ductile would ring at a higher pitch. Even the people at the foundry agreed with my method.

Had to bend clutch pedal on my 504 some years ago. Used acetylene torch , slowly heated it in area where needed bend, just got it red enough to soften to bend as desired. Let cool slowly.

Dave i was wondering if you had any issues getting the key for the brake hardware on the clutch pedal side out. am i correct in assuming that the shaft will slide out with the hardware removed. thanks

Loren
