560 throttle

My 560 D goes from idle to full RPM in the bottom half of the throttle lever movement. Upper half does nothing. I can't seem to find anything in my service books about this.

Your service books are not going to cover basic troubleshooting and mechanic work. They expect you already know how to do that.

What you need to do is follow the linkage from the throttle lever down to the injection pump. Find any loose connections and fix them. May need new bushings, or to have bushings made.

Issue could be in the governor itself, which I believe is part of the injection pump.

Unhook linkage right at pump. Operate pump lever by hand and you will be able to determine if pump is problem or external linkage.

I know there is some play in linkage, especially first one at top of RH steering support, I'll investigate that to see if it has a bushing, thanks for the info

Mine - (gas) had that same looseness. It was very annoying, you never knew exactly where the throttle was going to kick in, or by how much, you'd have to get a good grip on the wheel before making an adjustment so you wouldn't flip over backwards!

I took the entire linkage assembly apart. I was surprised to find replacement ball joint rod ends at a local True Value hardware store in their drawer of oddball items (orings, springs, etc.)

I also had a few sheets of thin brass shim stock. I used that to shim the shaft type joints to tighten them up - just a strip cut to the right width wrapped around the shaft until it was tight. The proper fix would be to drill them out and put bushings in, but ... it's just a throttle linkage, so good enough.

I made a new pad under the throttle lever out of some cork gasket material cleared all the rust out and put a new spring on it.

The result was worth the effort. I didn't realize exactly how annoying it was until it worked well.
