300 utility replacement trans. seal.

Need help, I have a utility 300 with torque amplifier and I have a transmission seal leaking. I'm getting ready to replace the seal and was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is anything I need to check or do once I'm inside, since I want to do this only once. So if someone could help me out I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Need to know were the leak is coming out at and how the tractor is equipped. T/A or no T/A, independent PTO or not? Not real uncommon to find a 300 utility without a T/A or IPTO or just one without the other. Depending on where leak is some set up types can be a bigger job than others.

I do have T/ A and I do not have a independent PTO. The leaking of fluid is coming from the plate on the under belly of the tractor, near where the engine bolts to the trans. I have been told by other members that the trans seal is gone and needs to be replaced. I just need to know if I need to inspect other parts or seals while I have it apart. I thank you D Slater for getting back to me, and I hope I answered what you needed to know. I hope you can help me out. Thank you.

If it's the flat T shaped plate and the gasket mounting it is not leaking or the gasket between center housing and transmission housing is not leaking. Look for 2 drain holes near the plate. They go into the T/A clutch compartment. If oil is coming out there you have 3 seals that can leak oil into that compartment. Unfortunately the center housing has to come out for the t/a sun shaft seal and t/a carrier seal. Seal at front wall of the compartment can be changed with a split at engine rear. The flat tee shaped plate shouldn't have a disconnect lever and shaft in it unless someone changed it. If it happens to have one oil can also leak there.

DD Slater; The leaking is coming out of the oblong plate towards the front of the tractor, near where the engine is attached to the trans. when the tractor gets to a good running temp is when the trans fluid leaks, the warmer the engine gets the faster the fluid comes out. I don't know if that helps in any way but I don't know what to do without taking a picture, which I have but don't know how to send it. Thanks again for any info you can and have gave me.

First plate back from front on the center housing is under the main clutch compartment. Hydraulic oil would be coming through a seal on the PTO drive or the big square head pipe plug up inside. Even though they call it a transmission driven PTO on your tractor, with t/a the drive starts just to rear of main clutch compartment. Replacing that seal, split at engine rear, remove clutch operating shaft to release bearing, remove 3 bolts retaining the release bearing carrier. Seal and O ring is in the release bearing carrier. Probably need to pull the shaft passing through it and it at the same time to get out.

I'm posting this picture of my cut-a-way from a 300 utility that shows were the three seals are located. You stated that the oil is coming out from the front cover on the bottom of the housing. Seal number 3 could be the leaker if it's HyTran that is leaking out. Could also be a leaking rear crankshaft seal

If I understand the picture right, it looks like the number 3 seal is the one. Now is that where the plate is and its basically a gasket under the plate, to where I don't have to split the tractor. I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but this is my first tractor. I know its not an rear engine seal, as I don't ever have to add any oil to the engine. I hope I'm understanding you right. I can't thank you enough for the outstanding help you have given me on this problem that I'm experiencing. Again thank you so very much. I'm a bricklayer, so that should explain a lot, weak mind but a strong back.

I need to add another picture with the arrow (# 4) pointing to the seal that is the common leaker into the clutch housing. I also drew a circle around the hole in the bottom of the TA housing. If you look close your can see the hole in the bottom of the case as the front wheel of the stand is showing. This cover is held on with 2 3/8 bolts if I remember correctly. I would suggest that you remove this cover and check inside the housing, Unfortunately splitting the tractor is almost always necessary.

[ quote="charlieu"](reply to post at 15:50:24 05/18/18) [When you say I should remove the two bolts and remove the cover and inspect inside the housing. Am I checking to see if there is fluid in the chamber or should I be looking for something other. Again I'm new at what I am doing, once I understand I won't be worried to tackle it. Thank you again.

Removing the cover will verify that oil is indeed leaking into the housing. I attach a picture of a housing from a Super M that had an oil leak

I hope this photo took. This is where the fluid is coming from. So it looks like it is seal4 of your last picture.
