HyTran Fluid for IH 674

Hoping to change out the PTO clutches in my IH 674 this weekend since they've been slipping under a heavy load. Planning to go ahead and put in new fluid and filter while I'm at it.

Is the Traveller Premium Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid from Tractor Supply ok for this tractor?

Thanks

Ah the endless oil debate. Do I really have to use the expensive recommended stuff or can I get away with the cheaper "compatible" oil from anywhere-but-CaseIH? Time to get out the popcorn.

You are only going to get OPINIONS on the subject, not facts. Nobody here has done a true scientific study to determine if the cheaper oils have any serious deficiencies. They will only relate to you their experiences with their ONE tractor.

You're going to get answers all across the board, from, "If a single drop of that cheap oil even touches the tractor, it will fall apart," to, "It's the exact same stuff, go ahead and use it."

Not trying to go cheap necessarily, I'm just 75 miles from the nearest Case dealer and I practically drive by the Tractor supply on the way to the tractor. Not opposed to getting something from local parts house also, as I also drive by a NAPA.

I don?t like the tsc oils. Your tractor has wet brakes and I don?t like using something that turns milky with the least bit of moisture introduced. I have found the Napa PREMIUM bye fluid to be a reasonable alternative for these old tractors. Around here it?s just under $50 a pail. Much more palatable thane $80+ for hytran. I will not use anything but hytran in newer powershift tractors. A $20 k transmission rebuild will make an extra $5 gallon oil look cheap. My two cents

As for The one tractor idea.We have several of them with alternative oil in them with no ill effects as of this time. 574 674 806 856 1466 4166 2 stiegers. We have used this oil for many years. So from that standpoint no it is not scientific though lots of history with little difficulty. Your mileage may vary.

on my 584,986,1466,1586 I use the premium line from rural king or any other brand like TSC, however on my 5230, 1570, 2470 and c80 they get hy-trans the 3 with power shifts I very careful with. just my 2 cents

I work on my friends tractors and combines and one buys that oil by the pallet he used it in case and lh and his combines he has no problem he buys about $25 a bucket
