one more question on 560 D oil cooler

trying to reg repair parts on hand before removing it. Where the manifold bolts to the block is there a gasket there? parts list shows it as a spacer, another as a flange and one lists a gasket. Looks like 2 O rings also but wondering about the gasket.
 
O-rings (2 - #9706714), are used between the oil cooler and the "oil cooler manifold", and a gasket (#349038R2) is used between the "oil cooler manifold" and the engine block.
 
I recently changed the o rings on a 560 oil cooler.To do the job,I had to spread the frame rail out from the engine. The o rings were so hard I could barely dig them out.They had been leaking bad. I probably would also change the coolant hoses while I had it off. I did not fool with the gasket at all,since it was not leaking. Mark.
 
thanks for the replies, after rereading parts book it appears there is a spacer with a gasket on each side along with the 2 O rings into cooler. There is a relief valve on cooler, anyone know what that does?
 
I don't recall there being a spacer with gasket on each side but it is possible in some applications I suppose.

As for the relief valve, that is so cold oil will bypass the cooler if pressure to move oil through cooler is excessive. A bypass valve actually because it does not limit maximum pressure in the system, just allows oil to bypass the cooler when deeded necessary .

A true relief valve limits maximum pressure and dumps excess to sump and that is in the oil filter base on these tractors.
 
thanks for the explanation. Noticed it in parts book on manifold. I was historically a JD guy, my dad worked for them for 28 years. Learning more about the red tractors, especially the 560 D as I go. It had many issues when I got it and I have fixed some, with help of service books and a parts tractor but still have a few to go, I appreciate your help
