Don: 656s never had common hydraulic problems, they are now close to 40 years old and for the first 35 years virtually trouble free hydraulics. Prior to that most of the problems were common incompentant users. I put 15,000 hours on a 656, trouble free on hydraulics. All it took was detailed service intervales.

Amen to that, and it's true for most every system on these old tractors. There were no weak points; the tractors are simply getting old and tired. Moving parts wear. Neglected parts sieze up. Seals, o-rings, and gaskets deteriorate.

In most cases, you're simply going to have to take it apart, figure out what's broken or worn out, and fix it.

Sounds like the unloader valve to me. Had to take the one out of my 666 and clean it and put a new o-ring on and put it back in. Probably has a piece of dirt in it. Works fine after that.

(quoted from post at 10:44:41 05/13/18) Where is the unloader located? Also I swapped the relief valve for the aux valves already.

Have the reverse issue on my 784 in that the rockshaft is stuck in the full up (transport) position (after dead heading the pump). Best I can figure out, need to take apart the "Unloading & Flow Control Valve" which is under the seat; bummer.

If anyone has had this issue (rockshaft in transport position & doesn't respond to control lever input) and/or had this valve apart, appreciate getting input/hearing from you.
