I'm rebuilding my 1940 farmall h. I miked the journals and they read out between 2.2415 and 2.2425. Can I use standard bearings? Crank looks good. Going to polish it with 800 grit soacked with wd40. Any info would would help.

Thanks Howard

Should be stamped on the insert what it is now but before going back together with It I sure would have the crank ground and then order the bearings.

As teddy suggested and I replied in your other post...the ideal sure fire way to make sure it is good when going back together is to grind or replace the crank. You can look at the back of the old inserts all day long and they will not tell you how much the crank is worn. It looks to me like your micrometer has told you it is worn below spec. I subtracted your high measurement from the lowest spec D Slater provided and that yielded 0.005 add that to the built in oil clearance to the ID of the standard bearings assembled in the rod and you have 0.007-0.009 inches of clearance. Run that if you want. I should have said this in my other reply. Take the crank to a reputable machinist and have him tell you what will work. Not someone giving you advice through hundreds of miles of wire.

Take it to a professional who can physically get his hands on it. He can advise the best 'plan of attack'.You may think you are saveing money by doing it yourself. But when you have to go back and redo a second time.......Well,you know the rest

I did H hold good oil pressure? Is the bearing that was in engine wore much? Is your mick dead on rite? Just things to think about before you go any further. Also how much you gonna use H and will it be for heavy work? You get crank turned and every thing that goes with a complete overhaul it may gat more costly than you want to spend. Just my two cents
